Description
Retha Davis Tibbals had energetic curiosity which made her a lifelong learner and avid reader. Education was a large passion for herself and her family. Mrs. Tibbals and her husband Harry Tibbals, encouraged and financed college educations for their 4 children, funded college trusts for all 22 great grandchildren and were co-founders of the WISD Education Foundation. Their endowed scholarships and “Leaves” donated to the Tibbals Tree of Honor and Knowledge provide grants and scholarships to dozens of deserving teachers and students.
For her commitment to education Mrs. Tibbals received the Elisabeth W. Garrison award from Wylie ISD. Baylor University would also go on to honor Mrs. Tibbals with the “decree” of Baylor Alumni by choice.
Wylie ISD further recognized Mr. and Mrs. Tibbals with the naming of Harry and Retha Tibbals Elementary School. The wall mural in the school bears the motto of Mrs. Tibbals “If you love them; you can teach them”. Mrs. Tibbals would go to visit the library at Tibbals Elementary and read books to the kindergarten children.
