Portia Ross Taylor

Dublin Core

Description

Portia Ross Taylor was a longtime and beloved teacher at the Hamilton School, a school that served students in the Black community from 1924 until Frisco ISD integrated in 1964.

Mrs. Taylor was one of two teachers and taught students in grades one through four. She lived in Frisco during the week while teaching and returned to Dallas on the weekends to be with her family.

According to former students, she would walk them home and eat supper and stay with their families during the week. For three decades years she taught students and instilled a love of learning.

Mrs. Taylor's legacy lives on through the Portia Ross Taylor Elementary School in Frisco ISD.
