"Cpl. Jack Kirby, son of Mrs. L. M. Craft, Dallas. Grandson of the late E. F. Kirby, McKinney. Graduate of McKinney High school. Entered Marine s Jan. 1943. Trained as paratrooper at Camp Gilispie, Calif. Went to Pacific Nov. 1943. Reassigned in Feb. 1944. Trained as machine gunner at Camp Pendleton, Calif., making 1st gunner over squadron of men and again went to Iwo Jima with 5th Div. Was one of the 28th that placed the Flag on Mt. Suribachi where he lost his life."
