Pvt. Lester M. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Smith of McKinney, was born September 2, 1895. Attended the schools of McKinney. Volunteered May 9, 1916 and left McKinney with the National Guard, serving on the border. He served with Co. B, 144th Inf., 36th Division, and trained at Camp Bowie. Left for France in July, 1918. Saw service in the Somme and Meuse-Argonne drives."
